Algeria: Story of a millenary Civilisation / Algerian Embassy and Museum of Bank Melli Iran Joint Exhibition

"Algeria: Story of a Millenary civilization", a Joint exhibition of the Algerian Embassy and the Museum of Bank Melli Iran opened on Monday, April 29th 2019 in the premises of the Museum of Bank Melli Iran. 

The opening ceremony took place at the conference hall of the Museum in presence of the officials of the Iranian Organization of Cultural Heritage, Iranian National Museum, Bank Melli Iran, different Iranian banks and museums, members of the diplomatic missions and organizations accredited to Tehran, experts in the field of museum studies and a number of jewelry artists.

In the beginning, H.E. Mr. Abdelmoun’aam Ahriz, Ambassador of Algeria, Mr. Ravaghi, Director of the museum of Bank Melli Iran and Mr. Talebian, Deputy of the Iranian Organization of Cultural Heritage delivered their welcoming speeches. They expressed willingness to improve collaboration between the museums of both countries to focus on the culture and the history of both nations, and exchange ideas in the relevant field.

After the ceremony, the guests were guided to the building of the Museum where a large number of Algerian banknotes, coins and contemporary works of art (paintings, miniatures, handcrafts and clothes) were exposed.

Besides, the documentary “Algeria from above” (Algérie vue du ciel) was screened to introduce different regions and tourist attractions of Algeria to the public in the movie hall of the Museum. At the end of their tour, visitors could taste Algerian delicacies and receive a pack of gifts including Algerian current coins and mugs decorated by Algerian symbols as souvenirs of the event.

A part of the exhibition presented works of Iranian jewelry artists. This part of the exhibition consisted of jewelry pieces and artworks inspired by the Algerian motives. Two months before the exhibition, Sun Art Jewelry Academy and Farzam Jewelry Institute in the collaboration of the Algerian embassy launched a call for artists from all around Iran to design and present jewelry works inlaying Algerian coins and symbols.

Two hundred conceptions were approved among hundreds received from near and far and were displayed to the public. Some of the designs had been realized using technical innovations among which eight pieces were selected as the most original, stylish and innovative Algerian designs. After the closing date of the event, all the artists will receive a certificate of appreciation from the Algerian Embassy and the top eight will be rewarded with Algerian coins to be set in their future artistic creations.

Given the large number of visitors, the Exhibition will be open to public till the end of the holy month of Ramadan at Bank Melli Iran’s Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. (Saturday to Wednesday).
