Algerian Cultural Week in Tehran

The openning ceremony of the Algerian Cultural Week was held in Tehran with the presence of the Algerian Minister of Culture, H.E. Mr. Azzedine Mihoubi, his Iranian counterpart, H.E. Mr. Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, and Mr. Abouzar Torkaman, President of the Islamic Culture and Relations, as well as a group of scholars and artists of the two countries. Also cultural officials of Iran, ambassadors and the foreign diplomats in Tehran took part in this ceremony. The Algerian cultural week was held from 10th to 17th December 2016 at the National Library of Iran.

Algerian cultural week 1  

H.E. Mr. Mihoubi made important remarks in this ceremony : "We believe cultural interaction between Iran and Algeria enjoys a new and dynamic move". He appreciated Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance H. E. Mr. Reza Salehi–Amiri for providing an occasion to hold the Algerian culture week and underlined that it was not just a cultural event, but also a true occasion to emphasize higher level of politico-cultural cooperation between the two countries.

In his turn, H.E. Mr. Salehi Amiri pointed to the beginning of the Week of solidarity and the birth of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and said: "Presence of the Algerian Minister of Culture, H.E. Mr. Mihoubi and his accompanying delegation and all domestic and foreign guests at this time, is an honor for all of us". He referred to the historical relations between the two countries in economic, political, cultural and artistic fields and continued: "The Algerian Revolution was one of the greatest models for our country to resist and give birth to the Islamic Revolution of Iran".

The Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance considered the event as an opportunity for further interaction and cultural and artistic cooperation between the two countries. 

At the end, before going to visit the exhibition, Mr. Torkaman offered a Persian version of the Algerian Minister's book of poetry Aures, translated into Farsi by Mr. Mostafa Omidi, Deputy director of Asia- Oceania at the Organisation of the Islamic culture and relations.

During this event, Algerian film screening sessions in addition to a number of concerts were held. Gillo Pontecorvo’s 1966 black-and-white film "The Battle of Algiers", "L’Algérie Vue Du Ciel" (On the Sky of Algeria) by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, "Le Puits" (The Well) by the Algerian filmmaker Lotfi Bouchouchi, and "El Manara" (The Lighthouse) by Belkacem Hadjadj were screened during this five-day event.

Musician Nouri Koufi with his band performed some pieces in "Hawzi" and "Laroubi" musical style. El Amma band from Kenadsa region also played some folk music.

 Algerian cultural week - Music

An exhibition of visual arts, handicrafts and traditional foods was also held to get the Iranian public closer to the algerian culture. 

During this cultural week, Algerian poets and writers attended meetings in two of the most prestigious universities of Tehran, Alzahra and Allameh Tabataba'i University to discuss litterary and cultural questions with Iranian students.
